About us

The East Grinstead Model Engineering Society is a completely voluntary organisation that was formed in 1949 by a group of friends all interested in modeling.

Although the Society's income relies on running it's 5" gauge railway we are interested in all aspects of modeling and engineering. Some of the members build and fly model aircraft, or traction engines, stationary engines and boats. There is also a keen interest in smaller gauge railways.

The other interest the club has is engineering, whether large or small. We fabricate everything we can in house.

At the clubhouse we have a well equipped workshop with lathes, milling and drilling machines. These can be used by members for building their own models or for maintenance to the railway.

The Society also arranges visits to other club tracks or places of interest.

The Club meets on a Wednesday evening and is a fun and enjoyable place with lots of projects on the go and a welcoming cup of tea.

In August 2023 the club became a Limited by Guarantee company under the title East Grinstead Model Engineering Society Limited.
